This specimen was lot 46016 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. 2 Gulden, 1853. Munich Mint. Maximilian II. NGC MS-63." Double gulden were struck along with gulden and half gulden in parallel with the thaler series. Two thaler = 3½ gulden. This type was struck 1848-56 and is common. It is the last of its denomination.
Recorded mintage: 634,178.
Specification: 21.21 g, 0.900 fine silver, 36 mm diameter.
