Bavaria 1855 2 gulden Dav-604
This two gulden (about 1-1/7 thaler) was issued to commemorate the restoration of the Madonna column in Munich. Like many commemoratives, it was saved more than the regular issue and is now more common. One of the results of unification was the termination of separate coinages for each of the independent states, including Bavaria. No two gulden pieces were struck after 1856. Bavaria issued coins using the united empire standard in the denominations of 2, 5, 10 and 20 mark during 1871-1918 when the empire collapsed at the end of World War One. The old thalers continued to circulate as three mark pieces. King Maximilian II ruled 1848-64.
