Sedwick sale 12, lot 1351

This specimen was lot 1351 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $312.70. The catalog description[1] noted, "Santiago, Chile, bust 1/2 real, Charles IV, 1804FJ, encapsulated NGC AU 58, finest known graded by NGC. Superb luster and clearly Uncirculated but with crude edge due to poor centering and other minor flaws (including a line cross the bust from a hair on the die!), choice for the issue." It is one of a series minted 1792-1808 for Charles IV. Despite the steady output, the type is scarce.

Recorded mintage: 58,000.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.896 fine silver, .048 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-13328, KM-57; CT-1350.
