This specimen was lot 28979 in Heritage sale 3031 (Dallas, January 2014), where it sold for $1,821.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 8 Escudos 1778 Mo-FF, AU Details (Mount Removed). Slight traces of mount removal at 11 and 1 o'clock. Much mint luster remaining." This type was issued at Mexico in 1773-85 and is the first eight escudos of Mexico not stratospherically priced; assayer FF is listed for 1778-84.
