This specimen was lot 24699 in Heritage sale 3016 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $2,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 8 Escudos 1774-FM, AU55 NGC, mintmark and assayer's initials face inward, an attractive example with strong features and considerable mint luster." This is the first eight escudos of Mexico which is reasonably available. It was struck 1772-89 with mintmark facing outward and inward (shown here).
