Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74167
SB223-74167r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74167 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Utrecht. 6 Stuivers, 1787. Utrecht Mint. NGC AU-50. A quite charming example, with limited wear and brilliance retained on the glossy flan. A pleasing example." This type was struck starting in 1697 and intermittently all the way thru the eighteenth century. This subtype is noted for 1785-89 and 1794. Scheepjeschillings were also struck in gold of two ducats' weight and more dates are available in that format.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.95 g, 0.583 fine silver, .093 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-101.2.
