Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 72912

This specimen was lot 72912 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 100 Pesos, 2012-Mo. Mexico City Mint. NGC PROOFLIKE-69. Numismatic heritage of Mexico commemorative. From a popular commemorative series tailored to numismatists, this flashy, practically flawless bimetallic piece is tied for the finest NGC has encapsulated." This denomination was used for numerous NCLT's in 2012, including KM 921, 963, 964, 965, 966, 967, 968. This specimen is one of a series issued by the Mexico City mint to honor famous Mexican coins of the past, in this case the silver peso of emperor Maximilian.

Recorded mintage: 8,000.

Specification: 33.825 g, brass outer ring with 0.925 fine silver center, .500 troy oz ASW, 39.9 mm diameter, segmented reeded edge.
