This specimen was lot 22570 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $3,818.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander II Proof 1/2 Kopeck 1868 СПБ, Crowned Alexander II monogram within wreath / Date and value, Proof 65 Brown NGC. Superbly struck with reddish-brown patina and no notable flaws." This type was struck 1867-81 at Ekaterinburg and St. Petersburg. Mintages are generally decent but the SCWC does not note the existence of any proofs. The half kopek or denga was the second lowest denomination Russian coin.
Recorded mintage: 60,000.
Specification: 2.56 g, copper, 17.9 mm diameter.
