Künker sale 335, lot 4532

This specimen was lot 4532 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,309 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH. Wilhelm I. 1816-1864. Doppelgulden 1825. Ohne Signatur WAGNER F. auf der Vorderseite. R Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Württemberg, William I, 1816-64, double gulden of 1825, without engraver's signature on obverse. Scarce, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This is the first coin ever struck in Württemberg of this denomination. When the gulden was equal to two-thirds of a thaler, a double gulden was not needed. This rare type was struck with and without "WAGNER F" below the bust. This one is without.
