This specimen was lot 49 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $13,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, cob 2 escudos, 1705H, rare, NGC AU 58, ex-1715 Fleet (designated on special label). Broad flan with full legends, well-centered full cross-lions-castles and pillars-and-waves, dark sediment in crevices (no luster). From the 1715 Fleet." This type was struck in small numbers 1701-16, 1720-23, 1728, 1733-36, 1741, 1744.
Reported Mintage: 4,973.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.917 fine gold, .199 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.67 grams.
