Peru 1707-L H 2 escudos
This specimen was lot 21650 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $5,462.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Felipe V gold cob 2 Escudos 1707H Lima, XF45 NGC 1715 Fleet, variety with misspelling ISPANIA. Lightly toned and nearly fully struck on a round flan, a choice example and a premium coin for this designation. From the Don Benito Collection of Hispanic Gold." The type was struck in Lima, Peru, 1701-44; the date 1707 is listed for one, four and eight escudos cobs. Gold coins from colonial Peru are much scarcer than those from Colombian mints. Assayer H is recorded for 1696-1709.
