Peru 1808 8 reales rev DSLR.jpg

This is an example of a type struck 1791-1808 at Lima, Peru. It is the final date of its type and was replaced that year by an imaginary bust of Ferdinand VII. As a class, colonial coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, tho it is more available than the remaining mints. However, Harris[1] noted finding twice as many Peruvian two reales of Charles IV as that of Mexico, so it is safe to say that this type is common.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.896 fine silver, .195 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 95, Cayón-13679.
