The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Mexico|MEXICO]]. 5 Pesos, 2000-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-69. Endangered Wildlife Series, featuring the Neotropical River Otter. Struck to commemorate the Nutria de Rio." In 2000, the Mexico mint issued a series of five silver five pesos NCLT's honoring endangered Mexican wildlife. In addition to the otter featured here, the others included the golden eagle, the river crocodile, the pronghorn antelope and the wild horse.

The first specimen was lot 72910 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Pesos, 2000-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-69. Endangered Wildlife Series, featuring the Neotropical River Otter. Struck to commemorate the Nutria de Rio." In 2000, the Mexico mint issued a series of five silver five pesos NCLT's honoring endangered Mexican wildlife. In addition to the otter featured here, the others included the golden eagle, the river crocodile, the pronghorn antelope and the wild horse.
