This specimen is one of a type issued since the reform of the Mexican peso in 1992 (one new peso = 100 old pesos). The design was modified slightly in 1996 to drop the "N" in front of the "$" but is otherwise unchanged. When it was introduced, one dollar was about three pesos; today (December 2024), US$1 = 20.6 pesos.
Recorded mintage: 158,379,000.
Specification: 3.95 g, stainless steel ring with aluminum-bronze center, 21 mm diameter.
