France 1567D teston rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen was lot 31323 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $199.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IX Testone 1567-D, Lyon mint, VF30 NGC. Classic, laureate bust of the young Charles IX with 'D' mintmark below. Reverse design features crowned arms, date in roman numerals. A lovely example with desirable, aged patina and strong legends." Duplessy lists this type for the Lyon (1562-72) and Limoges mints (1561-74). Charles IX was only briefly king of France.

Recorded mintage: est. 212,568[3], a scarce date.

Specification: 9.59 g, .899 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Dupl-1071, Sb 4618.
