Künker sale 423, lot 25

This specimen was lot 25 in Künker Auction 423 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,407 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand I., 1522-1558-1564. 1/2 Taler o. J. (1546-1550), Hall. Brustbild mit umgehängter Vlieskette. Gekröntes und geharnischtes Brustbild l., mit der Linken das Zepter schulternd, die Rechte am Schwertgriff//Adler, den Kopf nach l. gewandt, auf der Brust zweifeldiges Wappen (Kastilien/Österreich). RR Min. Schrötlingsriß, sonst vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion UBS 46, Basel 1999, Nr. 1094. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand I, 1522-1558-1564, undated half thaler, circa 1546-50, Hall mint. Obverse: crowned and armored half-length bust left, with Order chain, scepter and sword; reverse: eagle, head left, supporting the impaled arms of Castile and Austria. Planchet cracks, otherwise extremely fine.)"

We show an earlier half thaler from the Vienna mint which has different arms on the eagle.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.2 g, silver, 35 mm diameter, this specimen 14,45 g.
