United States 1853 half dollar rev DSLR.jpg

This issue is common for the type but is priced slightly higher than later dates in the 1850's. This "with arrows and rays" variety was struck 1853 only. Arrows were added to the date 1853-55 to indicate a reduction in weight, from 13.36 g to 12.44 g.

Recorded mintage: 3,532,708.

Specification: 12.44 g, 0.900 fine silver, .360 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, designed by Christian Gobrecht.

Catalog reference: KM 79.
