This specimen was lot 1180 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Alexander II. 1855-1881. Rouble 1859, St. Petersburg Mint, ФБ. Very rare in this condition. Small edge nicks. Superb specimen with beautiful toning and some mint lustre. About uncirculated. Рубль 1859, СПб МД, ФБ. 20.46 г. Биткин 70 (R1)."

This type was struck 1859-85 in respectable quantities but not so many as the prior type (Dav-283). In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams.

Recorded mintage: 14,000 plus a few proofs, a scarce date.

Specification: 20.73 g, 0.868 fine silver, this specimen 20.46 g.
