This specimen was lot 40061 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1796-JF Escudo. Popayán mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). AU-55 (PCGS). Light yellow gold tinted with pale green. Lustrous reflectivity remains around the obverse legends and across the reverse, lending significant flash and excellent eye appeal. Light hairlines are noted. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Superior Coin and Stamp's sale of June 1974, lot 1178." This type was struck at Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) and Popayán 1791-1808 and is a common gold coin of Charles IV.
