The first specimen was lot 40235 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1796-JF 2 Escudos. Popayán mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). EF-45 (PCGS). This date is called 'rare' by Restrepo. Medium yellow gold with some hairlines and a pronounced double profile. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Kreditanstalt, Zürich, April 1971." This type was struck 1791-1806 at Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) and Popayán and is common, tho priced slightly higher than the prior type of Charles III. The second specimen was lot 74050 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $1,170. The catalog description[2] noted, "CHILE [sic]. 2 Escudos, 1796-P JF. Popayan Mint. Charles IV. PCGS AU-53. A flashy yellow-golden example with minor wear and problem-free surfaces. From the Richard August Collection. Ex: Philip H. Ward Jr. Collection. Ex: Jim Shipley."

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.
