This specimen was lot 40060 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1796-JJ Escudo. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). MS-62 (PCGS). Glistening frosty luster covers choice and original medium yellow gold surfaces. A particularly nice piece. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Glendining's sale of November 1971, lot 446." This type was struck at Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) and Popayán 1791-1808 and is a common gold coin of Charles IV.
