This specimen was lot 32088 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Weimar Republic. 3 Mark, 1930-A. Berlin Mint. NGC MATTE PROOF-63. A stunning Choice Proof example, with sharp details and a handsome Matte nature. A piece with exceptional eye appeal that makes the already popular design pop with the Matte finish." This type celebrating the flight of the Graf Zeppelin was issued in 1930 from six mints. The proofs are rare. It is much more common than the regular issue (KM 74) and was accompanied by KM 69 (Vogelweide) and KM 70 (Rhineland). The Graf Zeppelin was grounded in 1937, after the loss of the Hindenburg, and was scrapped in 1940.
Recorded mintage: 541,900 plus proofs.
Specification: 15 g, 0.500 fine silver, lettered edge, 30 mm diameter.
