Ponterio sale 169, lot 10669
Russia 1844 ruble rev Ponterio 169-10669.jpg

This specimen was lot 10669 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $258. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1844-MW. Warsaw Mint. PCGS Genuine--Surface Tooled, AU Details Secure Holder." This type was struck 1832-58 in large quantities but is today very rare in nice condition. An 1844/3 overdate is noted. The preceding type (Dav-282) is very similar but with a "wings down" eagle.

Recorded mintage: 2,364,000 (highest mintage date).

Specification: 20.73 g, 0.868 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM C168.2; Bit-395, Dav-283.
