Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 52389
SB823-52389r.jpg

This specimen was lot 52389 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. 5000 Dinars, AH 1293 (1876). Tehran Mint. Nasir al-Din Shah. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Qajar Dynasty. Despite the noted and unfortunate cleaning, the present example is well detailed and limitedly circulated. A pleasing and presentable example of the very popular and elusive type, and one that is certain to make an impression on any collector of Iranian coinage." This one year type is rather scarce. With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran. The photo in the SCWC shows KM 914, not this coin.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 23.02 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-A914.
