Sincona sale 92, lot 90

This specimen was lot 90 in Sincona sale 92 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 900 CHF (about US$1,248 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN Qajar Dynasty, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). Pattern 500 Dinars 1293 AH (1876), Tehran Mint. Sehr selten, NGC AU Details. Rand weist stellenweise leichte Beschädigungen auf, Very rare, Edge slightly damaged in some places. From the Kian Collection Part 1, auction SINCONA 85, Zürich, October 2023, lot 1077. Purchased from G. Moussessian, Munich, in 1998."

This pattern was struck for the transition to milled coinage in AH 1293-1297. All the branch mints were closed and production accomplished at Tehran. The silver 500 dinars was not struck for circulation until AH 1297 (KM 894.1) but other denominations preceded it.
