Goldberg NY International sale 59, lot 2136
GNY23-2136r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2136 in Goldberg's NY International sale 59 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "10 Kopecks 1844 CПБ-KБ. Authenticated and graded by NGC MS 61 PL. Lightly toned. Prooflike strike." This type was struck 1832-58 in large numbers and this is a somewhat better date. In 1859, the silver was reduced to 0.750 fine and reduced again to 0.500 fine in 1867.

Recorded mintage: 461,000.

Specification: 2.07 g, 0.868 fine silver, .028 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM C164.1, Bit 367, Sev 3442.
