Sincona sale 63, lot 924

This specimen was lot 924 in Sincona sale 63 (Zurich, June 2020), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$439 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Louis XVIII. 1814-1824. 1/2 Franc 1824 I, Limoges. . Nur 10'512 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. Leicht justiert. (kingdom of France, Louis XVIII, 1814-24, half franc of 1824, Limoges mint. Only 10'512 pieces struck, Extremely fine, Attractively toned, Minor adjustment marks.)"

This dime-sized coin was struck at Limoges under the régime of king Louis XVIII (1814-24). It is a late date of a type struck 1816-24. All half francs of this reign are of this type, which is fairly common, tho this is a very rare date. It was demonetized in 1869.

Recorded mintage: 10,476.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, plain edge. Designed by Auguste-François Michaut, 1786-1879, this specimen 2.47 g.
