This specimen is one of a series struck 1791-1808 at Lima, Peru, during the reign of Charles IV (1788-1808). The years 1791-93 saw the use of a local bust slightly larger than the standard bust of later years. As a class, colonial coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, tho it is more available than the remaining mints. However, Harris[1] noted the abundance of Charles IV one reales as follows: Mexico City, Potosi, Santiago (all common), Lima, Guatemala (somewhat scarce), Bogotá (rare).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.38 grams, 0.896 fine silver, .097 troy oz ASW.
