The first specimen was lot 889 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $574.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN, Reino de España. Carlos IV. 1788-1808. AR Real. Sevilla (Sevilla) mint. Carlos Tiburcio de Roxas and Nicolas Lamas, assayers. Dated 1796 S CN. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Gem mottled toned with fine color and luster. Another incredible small type coin. Highest and only coin graded for the date, and highest for the entire type." The third specimen was lot 681 in Aureo y Calicó sale 243 (Barcelona, April 2012), where it sold for 130 € (about US$196 including buyer's fees). The catalog[2] noted,

"1796. Carlos IV. Sevilla. CN. 1 real. Bella. Brillo original. Escasa así. EBC. (one real of 1796, Seville mint. Nice, original luster, extremely fine.)"

It is one of a series minted in Spain at Madrid and Seville 1793-1808 for Charles IV. The type is listed quite low in the SCWC but is very hard to find.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.812 fine silver, the first specimen Ø20 mm, 3.00 g, 12h axis.
