This specimen was lot 73717 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Rupee, 1918-(C). Calcutta Mint. George V. PCGS MS-64. Blazing with mint luster, this near-Gem stunner is about as good as you would get from the assigned grade. Just a few small contacts keep this from full Gem status." This rupee was struck at the Calcutta mint at the end of World War One. Wartime issues at Bombay (dot on reverse) and Calcutta (no dot) were large but dwindled and ceased after 1922, not to resume until 1938.
