The first specimen is a two reales cob minted at the Potosi mint in 1694 during the reign of Charles II. This specimen was lot 30292 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $205.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 2 Reales, 1694-PVR. Charles II (1665-1700). NGC AU Details--Scratches. Three partial dates. Attractively toned. Several very small scratches. From the Demarete Collection." This type was struck 1667-1701 for Charles II. It superseded the shield/cross type which was discredited in the debasement scandal of the 1630's and 1640's.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.931 fine silver, .202 troy oz ASW.
