This issue, from the Bayonne mint, is a scarcer date of a type struck 1814-15. The twenty francs of Louis XVIII of France are divided into two types, F.517 (first restoration, 1814-15) and F.519 (second restoration, bare head, 1816-24). It was demonetized in 2005. A complete set of this type comprises 18 date and mintmark combinations. The entire production run, 1814-15, totaled about 5.6 million pieces (91% from the Paris mint). This date is priced about 66% higher than the common date (1814A or 1815A). The catalog[1] notes two varieties, small date "4" (shown) and large "4", both priced about the same.

Specification: 21 mm diameter, 6.45 grams, 0.900 fine gold, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.

Mintage: 44,883[1], 45,000[2].

Catalog reference: F.517/5, KM 706.4.
