This specimen was lot 22365 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $517. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover. Taler, 1712-HH. George Ludwig (1698-1727). NGC AU-55. Good strike with attractive toning and nice underlying luster. Ex: New England Rare Coin Auctions 04/1980, Lot #1278." This type was issued 1712-15. Wild man thalers were issued from this locality as late as 1760. George Ludwig was promoted to king of England on the death of his cousin Anne Stuart in 1714. This is the period when the electorate ceased to be known as Brunswick-Luneburg and called Hannover instead.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
