Hannover 1712-HH 4 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 73285 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 4 Mariengroschen, 1712. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: crossed axes between HH. Georg Ludwig (future George I of Great Britain). PCGS MS-61. A delightfully enchanting Mint State survivor, this minor yields an alluring pastel tone, strong strike, and some hints of luster remaining as well. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1711-14. The denomination was terminated in 1788, by which time it had slipped from one-ninth thaler to one-twelfth thaler. For 1712, there is also KM 33 with a leaping stallion reverse, dated 1712-HCB.
