This specimen was part of lot 32951 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), which sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "William & Mary 4-Piece Uncertified Maundy Set 1692, 1) Penny - UNC (light surface hairlines), KM 468.2; 2) 2 Pence - AU (light surface hairlines, flan flaw), KM 469; 3) 3 Pence - UNC (cleaned), KM 470.2; 4) 4 Pence - AU (light surface hairlines), KM 471.2. A pleasantly toned group in markedly high quality for the usual weakness of William and Mary's coinage. Sold as is, no returns. From the Engelen Collection of World Coinage." This type was struck 1689-94 and is fairly common. The silver tuppence was struck thru the eighteenth century but became less and less useful until finally superseded by Boulton and Watt's copper "cartwheel" tuppence of the 1790's. Silver tuppence are still struck for the Maundy sets.
