Stephen Album sale 43, lot 1297

This specimen was lot 1297 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN: William III, 1694-1702, AR 2 pence, 1700, beautiful multicolored toning with orange highlights, EF." This is the most common date of a type struck 1699-1701. The silver tuppence was struck thru the eighteenth century but became less and less useful until finally superseded by Boulton and Watt's copper "cartwheel" tuppence of the 1790's. Silver tuppence are still struck for the Maundy sets.
