Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73390

This specimen was lot 73390 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 2 Pence (1/2 Groat), 1691. William III & Mary II. NGC AU-53. A charmingly original example, this small silver piece displays sharply detailed jugate busts and bright surfaces with a hint of tone." This type is listed for 1689-94 and is fairly common. Maundy sets comprised silver one, two, three and fourpence but we don't know if this example was struck for the sets.
