This specimen was lot 40143 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $6,785. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 5 Guineas, 1691. NGC XF Details--Mount Removed. William & Mary (1688-94). Some tooling on obverse." This expensive type, struck 1691-94, also comes with an elephant privy mark under the busts, indicating African gold (see Fr-300).

Specification: 41.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, 1.23 troy oz AGW.
