This specimen was lot 41446 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Calenberg & Luneburg (Celle). Taler, 1665. Clausthal Mint. Christian Ludwig. NGC MS-61. From the Augustana Collection." This type was struck for Christian Ludwig 1649-65 and is fairly common. The duke died in 1665 and a series of commemoratives was issued to mark the occasion. His successor, Georg Wilhelm, was the last duke of the line. The duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle then passed to Hannover in 1705.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
