Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71230
SB1021-71230r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71230 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 2 Annas, 1908-(C). Calcutta Mint. Edward VII. NGC MS-62. Moderately toned in golden-olive shades with few marks observed for the grade." The two annas was the smallest silver coin struck during the Raj and was equal to 1/8 rupee; it was superseded by a copper-nickel coin in 1918. All the Edward VII issues were struck at Calcutta except for a few made at Bombay in 1909.

Recorded mintage: 21,600,000 + proofs.

Specification: 1.46 g, 0.917 fine silver, .043 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-505.
