from Steve Album sale 45, lot 2288

This specimen was lot 2288 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: Edward VII, 1901-1910, AR ½ rupee, 1909(c), a lovely mint state example, PCGS graded MS63." The half rupees of Edward VII were struck 1904-10 and most dates are common. Proofs are rare. In 1909, the Bombay mint struck half rupees only in proof.

Recorded mintage: 1,569,000 plus proofs and restrikes, a better date.

Specification: 5.83 g, 0.917 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-507, S&W-7.68.
