This specimen was lot 31414 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "Holland. Provincial 48 Stuivers or Ducat 1683 MS63+ NGC. At the top of the pop at NGC, this wondrously dazzling piece exhibits a high degree of luster and charming argent surfaces. Exceedingly choice and a cut above, as indicated by its plus designation. Undoubtedly, a quality which would be difficult to improve upon." Silver ducats from the province of Holland are not listed as rare but this is only the second one we have been able to obtain. The type is listed for 1659-70 (Dav-4896), 1672-95 (Dav-4898) and 1735-1800 (Dav-1840). Double silver ducats also exist.
Recorded mintage: 51,319 for 1679-83.
Specification: 28.25 g, .873 fine silver.
