Steve Album sale 39, lot 3565
SA39-3565r.jpg

This specimen was lot 3565 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $84. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY: Wilhelm II, 1888-1918, AE 2 pfennig, 1907-F, mostly brown, but some red, with only the slightest wear, key date/mintmark, Choice AU." This coin is an copper two pfennig from a type issued 1904-1916 from the Berlin (mintmark "A"), Munich (mintmark "D"), Muldenhutten (mintmark "E"), Stuttgart (mintmark "F"), Karlsruhe (mintmark "G") and Hamburg (mintmark "J") mints. Altho this is a very common type, this is the first specimen we have posted on this website. Under the German Empire of 1871-1918, the denominations of two mark and up were permitted for the formerly independent principalities while the lower denominations (one pfennig thru one mark) were minted to a unified design.

Recorded Mintage: 1,059,000, a better date.

Specification: 3.25 g, copper, 20 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-16.
