Saxe-Coburg-Gotha 1907-A 5 mark
The first specimen was lot 23903 in Heritage sale 3020, where it sold for $3,995. The catalog description[1] noted, "Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Carl Edvard 5 Mark 1907A, MS64 NGC, an incredible example of this very scarce type with full mint brilliance and exquisite silvery-gray patina. Absolutely original in all respects and certainly among the finest known." The second specimen was lot 4069 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 2600 CHF (about US$3,288 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha, Herzogtum Münzstätte Berlin Carl Eduard, 1900-1918. 5 Mark 1907. Prachtvolle polierte Platte. FDC. (Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Charles Edward, 1900-18, five mark of 1907, Berlin mint, proof.)"
