This specimen was lot 4082 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$253 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen-Weimar und Eisenach. Grossherzogtum Münzstätte Berlin Wilhelm Ernst, 1901-1918. 5 Mark 1908. Zur 350-Jahrfeier der Universität Jena. Vorzüglich-FDC. This type was saved in sufficient numbers as to be scarce, not rare. A silver two mark accompanied this issue. The design, depicting the duke who founded the college, departs from the usual profile busts.
Recorded mintage: 40,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter.
