This specimen was lot 11281 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $764. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/16 Real, 1833-MoA. NGC MS-63. Struck in brass. RARE type and exceptional quality." This specimen is from a type struck 1831-35 and is fairly available tho the 1831 is the date most often seen. This issue was accompanied by copper cuartillas and octavos; both were issued in an attempt to drive out the abusive minting of state and municipal coppers.
Specification: copper or brass, 1.75 g, 17 mm diameter.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Catalog reference: KM-315 (copper) or KM 315a (brass, shown here).
