Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 23772

This specimen was lot 23772 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence, 1902. London Mint. PCGS MATTE PROOF-65 Gold Shield. A pleasing, matte finish Proof with swirls of gray toning and peripheries of green. A match to the 1902 Matte Proof Shilling, Florin and Half Crown we are offering in this sale. From the Trident Collection." This type was struck 1902-10 for Edward VII in respectable numbers. This is the most common date and the only one available in proof.

Recorded mintage: 6,356,000 plus 15,000 proofs.

Specification: 2.82 g, 0.925 fine silver, 19.5 mm diameter.
