Sincona sale 1, lot 2297

This specimen was lot 2297 in SINCONA sale 1 (Zurich, June 2011), where it sold for 390 CHF ($543 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SPANIEN Königreich Felipe V. 1700-1746. 2 Escudos 1732, Madrid. Mmz. JF. Geharnischtes Brustbild nach rechts. Rv. Gekröntes Wappen. Hksp. Sehr schön. (Kingdom of Spain, Philip V, 1700-46, two escudos of 1732, Madrid mint. Armored bust faces right; obverse: crowned arms. Very fine.)"

This type was issued at Madrid 1730-33. All the early two escudos of Spain are rare and expensive. This one appears to have had a mount removed.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 6.77 g, .901 fine gold, .196 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6,61 g.
