Ponterio sale 150, lot 9523

This coin was lot 9523 in Ponterio sale 150 (Los Angeles, August 2009), where it sold for $833.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 8 Reales, 1620-A+. Segovia Mint. Philip III (1598-1621). 'V' in PHILIPPUS inverted 'A.' One small planchet flaw, toned EXTREMELY FINE." This type was struck in Segovia 1610-21; all dates are scarce to rare. Simultaneous with these handsome milled coins, the Toledo, Seville and Madrid mints were issuing cobs.

Specification: 27.07 g, .931 fine silver.
