Künker sale 336, lot 6689

This specimen was lot 6689 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,486 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GERMAN COINS SINCE 1871, REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, BADEN. Friedrich I. 1852-1907. 2 Mark 1888. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz/Stempelglanz. (Germany, grand duchy of Baden, 1852-1907, two mark of 1888. Rare in this condition, cabinet piece, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

Five dates are listed for this rather scarce type, 1876, 1877, 1880, 1883 and 1888. The silver two mark replaced the old gulden (10.58 g, .900 fine) last struck in 1867 prior to unification.

Recorded mintage: 75,219.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 265, J. 26.
